Steven Burns, D.V.M.
Dr. Burns was born and raised outside Akron, Ohio and now lives in Indian Village in Detroit with his wife Marge and their four children Michael, Edward, Thomas and Anna. His family’s collection of pets includes a gecko, a mouse and numerous fish and a beagle named Juno. He attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he received a B.S. in both Biology and Environmental Sciences and worked as a zookeeper at the Toledo Zoo and researched Humpback Whales in Cape Anne Massachusetts. He attended the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo pursuing a Masters degree in Physiology doing research on captive rhinos and wild horses in Nevada. Dr. Burns attended The Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine from 1992 to 1996 and has worked in Southeastern Michigan since graduation. He has worked with the Detroit Zoo as a Relief Veterinarian and with the State of Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources handling wildlife situations. Dr. Burns is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (SEMVMA). Dr. Burns has been the owner of the Walled Lake Veterinary Hospital since 2001 and purchased South Lyon Animal Clinic in 2018
Bernadette Hermann, D.V.M.
Dr. Hermann graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in zoology from Michigan State University. Since graduation she has practiced in Southeastern Michigan in both general practice and for almost 10 years in an emergency/neurology center. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, neurology, internal medicine, surgery, fear free vet visits and treating exotic pets including small mammals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, reptiles and birds. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). She and her husband Jeff have two kids, Jeffrey and Kara and share their Howell home with a Lab Mix, a pug and a guinea pig. In her free time she enjoys crafting, crocheting, reading, spending time at all of her children’s activities, cheering for Michigan State and Ohio State, and being part of the Michigan State Alumni Band.
Elicia Hunt, D.V.M.
Dr. Elicia Hunt grew up around the Flint / Grand Blanc area and currently calls Fenton her hometown. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She is a big proponent of the Fear Free Initiative and has interest in behavior, internal medicine, and nutrition. She strongly believes in practicing quality medicine in the least stressful way for your furry family members in order to strengthen the human-animal bond that is so special to us. Dr. Hunt is a member of the AVMA and MVMA. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, reading, camping, boating and off-roading in her Jeep. She has two cats at home, Chrisdafur and Stella Kiwi, and grew up having golden retrievers. She joined the SLAC team in December of 2018 and is excited to get to know and develop bonds with the clients and patients here at our clinic.
Shannon, CVPM - Practice Manager/Hospital Administrator
Shannon has been with Dr. Burns and his veterinary practices since 2002. She and her husband Brett and 3 children reside in Milford. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and completed the Veterinary Practice Management Program through Purdue University. She received her CVPM in 2016. She is currently a member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA), Michigan Association of Veterinary Practice Managers (MAVPM), and Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN). She also has 3 dogs, 1 cat and a tortoise. Most of all she enjoys working with such a fantastic team that shares the same love and passion for animals.
Jennifer L.V.T. - Lead Veterinary Technician
Jen grew up in the small town of Wixom, MI where she lived on a farm and had great experiences with the local police departments and learned to train police dogs and the Wayne County mounted unit. She has always had an understanding of animal behavior and the yearning to take care of them and help pet owners do the best for their pets. She has worked in the veterinary field for over 30 years. Jen has worked with large animal, small animal, exotics and in research. She has also done wildlife rehabilitation. Her favorite part of this career is educating pet owners on the best care and tips to keep their pets healthy and happy. Currently her interests are anything nature related. She has a son, a wonderful cat, 2 parrots and a dog named Groot. If you experience and appreciate the love of an animal-your life is rich and fulfilled.
Shelley L.V.T. -
Shelley joined Walled Lake/South Lyon Animal Clinic in January 2019. She is a 1997 graduated of Michigan State University’s Veterinary Technology Program. Her special interests are cats and first kitten visits. Shelley has two cats of her own - Ruby Roo and Little Peep. Outside of work she enjoys gardening, nature and hiking.
Megan- Vet. Assistant
Megan joined South Lyon Animal Clinic in 2010. She is currently attending the veterinary technician program with Penn Foster College and is an active member with the local greyhound rescue group. Megan has three greyhounds (Dave, Honey, and Penny) and one cat (Dottie). When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Chloe- Vet. Assistant
Chloe started working at South Lyon Animal Clinic in early 2018. Before working here, she worked in a large animal emergency hospital for 2 years as an assistant. Currently, she is enrolled in a vet tech program with Penn Foster. In her free time, Chloe enjoys kayaking, going for hikes and fishing. She has two dogs named Asher (pug mix) and Cooper (Tibetan Spaniel).
Debbie-Customer Care Representative
When you come into our office you will see Debbie at our front desk. She has been working at South Lyon Animal Clinic since 2004 and has 32 years of veterinary experience. She is a wonderful asset to our team. Debbie is married and has four children. She is also the proud grandmother of four (Amelia, Haley, Jackson, and Mason). She has one cat (Timmy). Debbie enjoys spending time and playing cards with her family and friends at their cottage in upper Michigan.
Heather - Customer Care Representative
Heather has worked in the veterinary field for 27 years and at South Lyon Animal Clinic since 2011. She is married and has four children Joseph, Joshua, Jonathon and Sarah. Two grandchildren Ella and Masen. Four dogs Buddy, Bella, Tuff, Rwby, and a cat Maybelle as well as a rat Alpha. In her free time she enjoys playing cards, camping and hanging out with family and friends.
